After a long day, we went to Surry Hills and stopped by at Chur Burger for dinner. We almost called it a day when the urge to drink hit us, so we opened up our app and found that Tokyo Bird was only about 200m down the road.
Tokyo Bird is not what we would call a hidden bar, but you would need to know what you were looking for to find it. It is Located in Belmore Lane just off of Commonwealth St. The bar entrance has a small sign above the door.
The bar itself is a Japanese Izakaya style bar, small and intimate with a lovely Japanese feel. We got ourselves a high table next to the window which was decorated with empty Japanese whiskey bottles.
We ordered two cocktails, the Black Star Martini (Gin, Aperol, lime, watermelon, rose & strawberry foam, pistachio crumble) and a Suntory Kakubin Old Fashioned. The drinks were well made, well presented and delicious.

The food menu boasts a yummy sounding range of Yakitori and Kushiyaki dishes as well as the usual snacks like Edamame and Gyoza.
We didn’t get to try the food as we were already full from Chur. We only got ourselves some Edamame with sea salt as a side to our drinks.
An hour was spent in this lovely place, we finished our drinks and made our way home. Another night concluded and another place on our favourites list.
We will definitely be back here at Tokyo Bird again.
