Since I Left You. A funny name for a bar, isn’t it? It can get incredibly confusing for friends who are trying to join you for a drink while at the same time trying to figure out when did you exactly leave them.
Located on Kent St between Market St and King St. The bar entrance can easily be mistaken as another alleyway until you see the sign and you slowly succumb to your destiny and walk right in.
The moment you walk in you will realise that the alleyway entrance was not just for show and in fact the entire alleyway, which appears to be some kind of loading dock area, to be the seating area for the bar itself. Very nice indeed.
I found there’s an advantage for setting up a bar inside an alleyway. I get to sit down and enjoy drinks with my friends in an outdoor setting during winter with no freezing wind blowing in our faces, the gas heaters were sort of redundant to me.
Since I Left You also has an inside area which I failed to explore. I was just so enchanted with the setting outside I didn’t feel the need to be adventurous. I promise I’ll check it out next time.
Another thing that will catch your attention the moment you sit down is the painting on the wall which is amazing to look at and debate on the logistics and skills required to paint such a magnificent feature.
I’ve been here a couple of times and the only drink I order is ‘Joeys White’ which is their house blend. It was a recommendation from a friend and I found it very easy to drink, I’m no wine expert, I just enjoy drinking it, and at $18 per 500ml, provides good value. I do suggest you try it, or if you like Red, then give ‘Joeys Red’ a go.
